According to the textile association, several spinning mills and garment units in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu are setting up solar panels on their rooftops to meet their own power consumption needs.
Tamil Nadu electricity regulatory commission (TNERC) will be increasing the “Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO)” for the state electricity utility by April this year from current 0.5 per cent to 2 per cent.
Korean solar manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells has signed a 70 MW PV module supply agreement with Ramnad Solar which is a subsidiary of India’s Adani Group. As per the agreement, Hanwha Q Cells will deliver its modules to Adani subsidiary while Adani will own and operate the solar plant which will be situated in the Tamil Nadu.

Under the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECIs) rooftop solar scheme, the company has also been awarded rooftop projects across five Indian states – Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
